- 175 students are registered for the course.
- 162 students took the quiz.
Thus there are thirteen 0% grades which is not considered in the following
statistics.
- The average (mean) grade is: 72% with a standard deviation of 13.3%.
- The median (50% of grades are higher and 50% are lower) is 74%.
- The lowest grade is 39% and the highest grade is 100%.
- The grade distribution (binned into 10%-intervals) can be viewed below.
(For example the point at an 75%-grade indicates that over 50 students
received a grade between 70 und 80%.)
While quiz 2 is still OK, grades dropped on average by about one letter grade (roughly a 10 percentage
point drop) compared to quiz 1. For example, as indicated by the point at 75% in the graph below, more
than 50 students received a percentage grade between 70 and 80 % in this quiz, while in quiz 1 more than
50 students received a grade between 80 and 90 %. Also, the average (mean) dropped from 81 to 72 % and
the median from 80 to 74 %. The lowest grade improved slightly from 36 to 39 %. Six students received a
grade of 100% as indicated by the 100-110% interval (plotted at 105%).
Overall you did OK on this quiz but as expected after the very good results of quiz 1, grades
dropped probably because good grades were expected. Please make sure you keep up the work and see
me if you have any questions (just email me at saar@umn.edu to set up an appointment or come to my
arranged office hour - see info below). Also if you have a grade below 60% you should definitely meet
with me.
I am also setting up an office hour now, just in case you feel
more comfortable stopping by a set time and place rather than scheduling
a meeting with me. Please feel free though to schedule individual meetings
with me if you prefer that or if you can't make it to the regular
office hour (email: saar@umn.edu).
