In front of Northrop Auditorium are numerous samples of a coarsely crystalline igneous rock that is commonly known as granite. The benches, the walls, and the planters are all made of this same rock, which at first glance appears monotonously uniform throughout the plaza area. Closer examination though, reveals some details in the rock samples that reflect their cooling history.
