INTEGRATED SURFACE PROCESSES/TECTONICS POSITION - University of Minnesota
We are looking for an individual who would like to be at
the center of an effort to study interactions among tectonic and
surface-process systems, both broadly defined. The effort will be highly
interdisciplinary and will involve participants whose research interests
intersect the triple junction among surface processes, tectonics, and
metamorphic geology. Modeling will be a central vehicle of the overall work,
but activities will not be limited to computer programming; the research will
likely also involve field and experimental components, depending on the
expertise and interest of the successful candidate.
Qualifications for this two-year (postdoctoral) position are a Ph.
D. in some aspect of tectonic or Earth-surface systems, with expertise in quantitative analysis
and/or modeling. Ideally this would be combined with strong field and/or
experimental expertise.
The Department of Geology and Geophysics has 23 faculty members,
25 research associates and post-doctoral fellows, and about 60 graduate
students encompassing a broad range of geoscience research. We maintain a wide
array of modern analytical, experimental, and computational facilities, and
have strong ties with the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (environmental fluid
mechanics) and the Large Lakes Observatory (UM-Duluth). Applicants are invited
to visit our web site (http://www.geo.umn.edu/) to learn more about us.
Applicants should send a resume including the names and addresses
of at least three referees to Chris Paola, Department of Geology and
Geophysics, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN 55455, USA (Phone:
612/624-8025; Fax: 612/625-3819). Enquiries about the position may be made to
Chris Paola (cpaola@umn.edu), Christian Teyssier (teyssier@umn.edu), or Donna
Whitney (dwhitney@umn.edu).
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
