This summer I traveled to the Montagne Noire, which is located in the southernmost area of the Massif Central in southeastern France. In the field I recorded structural data and collected rock samples from the migmatitic core and the mantling schists within the two subdomes of the Montagne Noire Gneiss Dome. When I returned to the lab I made thin sections from the samples and began preliminary analysis of the pressure and temperature histories of the samples. This academic year I will use my samples to determine the different metamorphic histories of the two subdomes and also to determine the relationship between the migmatitic core and the mantling schists by analyzing the metamorphic petrology, geochemistry, and structures.
