Useful Items that can be found on the "NET"

What follows is a list of programs and links that I believe to be useful to students in the Geosciences. Considering I am a Mac user the programs are heavily wheighted towards that platform. If you know of any items that should be on this list please let me know via email: dirkman@geolab.geo.umn.edu. I will be linking in the www.shareware.com search, or other where appropriate, so you will be able to get the files. (note: there are many other utilities that do similar things to the ones I have listed below, I just happen to like the ones I have listed)

WinPOP 		Mac
PC		 A really well done email client that supports POP and IMAP mail protocols. This is homegrown here at the U =:>
MacTelnet
PCTelenet 		Mac
PC		 This a VT100 terminal emulation program that is needed if you want to log onto UNIX machines
MacTN3270
WinTN3270 		Mac
PC		 Another Telnet like software that emulates an IBM TN3270 console. This is useful when connecting to LUMINA or PublicAccess sites like registrating.
Fetch Mac A VERY user friendly FTP client for the Mac
WinFTP PC An useful FTP client for Winows
Archivers
Stuffit Expander
WinStuffit 		Mac
PC		 This is THE dearchiver for the Mac, there is also a Windows version now which supports everything form .ARJ to .ZIP files. The Mac version does not yet support .ARJ files =:<
de-arj Mac This is a Mac port of a no frills .ARJ dearchiver
UnZIPMac Mac A Mac based .ZIP file dearchiver. I use one with the same name but version 2.0.1 and it works great. I just hope this 5.0 version is an update.
Graphics Oriented
GraphicsConverter Mac A GREAT graphics converter program that handles over 80 image file types
Text Oriented
BBEdit lite Mac The BEST FREEWARE text editor for the Mac that there is. Handles multimeg files and has a suite of find/replace/grep functions. Also has many "extensions" including web authoring ones. A 10 out of 10. Too bad there is no PC version.
