Bachelor of Arts (BA) Program in Geology

 

Course requirements

Liberal Education Requirements (55 cr).

Specific courses required of all geology students must be taken with A/F grading.

Freshman year

  • Math 1271, 1272, (or 1371, 1372; or 1571 or 1572)..............................8 cr
    Math 1271, or 1371, or 1571 satisfy LIB ED mathematical Thinking requirement
  • Physics 1301, 1302.................................................................................8 cr
    should be taken as early as possible, Phys 1301 is a pre-requisite for Geo 2201
    Phys 1301 and 1302 satisfy Writing Intensive (WI) requirements
  • Chem 1021, 1022....................................................................................8 cr
    should be taken as early as possible, Chem 1021 is a pre-requisite for Geo 2301
    Chem 1021 satisfies LIB ED physical science requirement
  • Geo 1xxx (optional but counts as geology elective)

Geo 4971- Hydrogeology Field Course (4 cr)

Senior Geo 4631- Earth Systems: Geosphere/Biosphere Interactions (3 cr)
Geo 3401
 
Workshop Courses Two (2) to be chosen from Geo 3870 (modeling), Geo 3880 (laboratory), or Geo 3890 (field) (1 cr each, 2 cr total to be taken in Jr or Sr year)

& denotes concurrent registration

Geology and Geophysics electives: 4 credits
