Newton Horace Winchell established the geology department at the University of Minnesota in 1872. This Thursday, Nov 1, he will be inducted into the Minnesota Science and Technology Hall of Fame. The NH Winchell School of Earth Sciences will be represented at the event by Harvey Thorleifson, Director of the Minnesota Geological Survey and Professor in the department.
