It is now official, beginning on July 1, 2011 Prof. Peter Hudleston will assume the position of Interim Department Chair, for the 2011-2012 academic year. Prof. Donna Whitney will take over as Dept Chair and Head of the N.H. Winchell School of Earth Sciences effective July 1, 2012. Congratulations, Donna!

Another summer internship to report: graduate student, Anna Lindquist, will be working at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory with Dr. Kim Knight in the Chemical Sciences Division. Anna says, "My research will be considered nuclear forensics, and I'll be mapping the elemental and phase distributions of nuclear fallout materials. The goal is to increase our understanding of the time, temperature, and oxidation conditions present at the formation of these materials."

One of Martin's graduate students, Joe Myre, has received a summer internship with supercomputer giant, Cray, Inc. in St. Paul, MN. Joe says, "During this internship I will be working with the performance group. My primary work will be conducting performance analysis of internal Cray software and systems. These include high performance scientific libraries, communications packages, compilers, and scientific test codes."
