Judy came to us with a B.S. degree in physics in Fall 2004. She is
working toward her M.S. degree in geology investigating the (de)coupling
between magmatic heat and helium signals in the Earth's crust. She
is employing a multiphase-multicomponent numerical code to
investigate such aspects as differences in diffusivities of He and
heat, boiling of water, or geometry of subsurface layers on
heat and helium (de)coupling. This research has implications for
geothermal energy research, groundwater management, and
fundamental aspects in volcanology such as estimates of magma
reservoir size and shape.
