Research Interests

My recent research falls into one of two broadly defined disciplines: Sedimentology and hydrogeology. I have a long-standing interest in the stratigraphic and sedimentologic attributes of Paleozoic strata in the central midcontinent of North America. The depositional origin of enigmatic, Lower Paleozoic sheet sandstones, and Cambrian mass extinction events, have been topics of particular interest. Over the past few years I have also been increasingly involved in groundwater research. Most of this latter work involves hydrogeologic characterization of the Paleozoic aquifer system of southeastern Minnesota through the integration of outcrop, core, and borehole geophysical data.
