RESEARCH FELLOW / POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE / RESEARCH ASSOCIATE SEARCH

The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Minnesota may have positions available (contingent upon funding) to work with faculty members conducting research. Faculty research specialties include but are not limited to geochemistry, paleomagnetism, Quaternary studies, sedimentology, petrology, hydrogeology, structural geology, rock physics, and rheology. Persons interested in working with faculty members are strongly encouraged to view departmental faculty home pages for individual research interests. Positions may become available during the 2012-13 fiscal year. Minimum requirements for these positions are: Research Fellow--M.S. in physical sciences (requisition #179234), Postdoctoral Associate--Ph.D. in physical sciences with no experience (requisition #179193), and Research Associate--Ph.D. in physical sciences with 3 years of experience (requisition #179233).

To apply for these positions, candidates must go to https://employment.umn.edu. Please attach your resume (CV), statement of research interests, and names of three references. Application deadline is June 30, 2013.

Post-Doctoral position in CO2-groundwater/hydrocarbon-heat transfer modeling

The Geofluids Research Group in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Minnesota seeks applicants for a postdoctoral researcher position in the field of numerical modeling of coupled multiphase fluid (water, brine, CO2, hydrocarbon) and heat transfer in sedimentary basin and reservoir-caprock systems. Required is expertise in numerical modeling of multiphase fluid and heat transfer at the reservoir-scale, using TOUGH2, Eclipse, or other simulators. This position was recently funded by a 4-year NSF Sustainable Energy Pathways (SEP) grant and the specific problem to investigate concerns combining geologic CO2 sequestration in deep saline aquifers or during Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) with geothermal energy utilization, resulting in a CO2-Plume Geothermal (CPG) power system. Also investigated will be concepts to use CPG for renewable energy storage from the local to the grid scale. Knowledge in power systems is desirable. The position is a one-year appointment with a very strong possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment is required. To apply, please go to https://employment.umn.edu (requisition #179193) and submit a cover letter, resume (CV), statement of research interests, and names and email addresses of three references. Application review will begin on November 1, 2012, and continue until the position is filled. An appointment is desired as soon as possible. For questions contact Professor Martin Saar at saar@umn.edu.
