The popular interest in astronomy and the exploration
of space entered the world of fiction. Jules Verne wrote several novels
and stories about space travel. The images on this page and the previous
page are from Round the Moon, From the Earth to the Moon,
and Off On A Comet. Note how the lay public percieved
the universe after the advent of the new astronomy. The stars
are no longer points on a graph but real objects to which one can
travel in a balloon or multi-stage rocket ship. |
