However, habitat dioramas are not merely static representations of the natural world. As with every human endeavor, we find social, political, economic, and ideological forces influencing the form and function of these exhibits.

This following assignment will explore some of the social influences apparent in natural history dioramas constructed between 1890 and 1920 in the United States by examining the exhibits alongside statements by naturalists, poets, and scientists.
