The dioramas themselves are not the only place that we find interesting social influences. An examination of the manner in which the specimens are collected informs us of other ways in which social influences affect natural history dioramas.

Museums and the popular press both honored the individuals who collected the specimens, especially the large mammals. The act of going on safari and killing an animal was all the more honorable if the animal itself was especially dangerous.
