WWW ASSIGNMENT I

Representation of Humans:
"Paper Workers," by Douglas Crockwell, was painted in 1934 and depicts both a noble image of working class people, and the machine based environment of the paper mill. Note the human forms in this image and their relationship to the rolling machine they are using. You may wish to compare this image with Diego Rivera's work.

Paper Rolling Machine:
The men in this image are working on a paper rolling machine designed to prepare new paper for shipment or further processing. Note the scale of this machinery and the relationship of the workers to the massive paper roll. This image was created in 1934 during the Great Depression, and suggests how many workers viewed industrial machinery.
