Charles Sheeler was a member of the precisionist school of American painting during the 1930s. Human beings do not appear in many of his works from this period, but in "Suspended Power" Sheeler chose to show three workers beside this massive hydroelectric turbine. Notice their position and scale in the image. What does this suggest about the role and significance of human beings working in a world of large technological systems?
